About me

Hello, my name is Bek, I am a state-registered art psychotherapist with advanced post-qualification training in complex trauma.

I have enjoyed working in schools over the past seven years, across learning support and pastoral roles. My experience spans primary and secondary education, supporting children and young people with a wide range of emotional, educational and psychological needs, including complex needs and trauma. I also have experience working within NHS psychiatric care.

I am passionate about helping children and young people understand what is happening for them, process difficult experiences and develop the internal resources they need to move forward. I am committed to supporting parents alongside this work and, where appropriate, collaborating with the other professionals involved in a child or young person’s care.

My approach combines psychological understanding, creative expression, and the therapeutic relationship. The aim is not simply to manage difficulties, but to support meaningful and lasting recovery.

A particular interest in reducing trauma for all members of the family during family breakdown.

Alongside my wider therapeutic work, I have a particular professional and research interest in the impact of family separation and Family Court proceedings on children and parents. I am a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Child and Family Law and Policy in Edinburgh, studying the trauma impact and mitigating factors for separating families during family court proceedings.

My clinical training, research and lived experience bring different perspectives to both my therapeutic practice and academic work. I am particularly interested in understanding where gaps in the professional and social support surrounding families in crisis can leave them vulnerable to further trauma, and how better understanding and support can help reduce unnecessary suffering.

This understanding also informs my clinical practice, helping me translate research, training and personal insight into therapeutic benefit for the children and families I work with.
